Question

What role does the opposite parallel surfaces of a glass slab play in lateral shift of light passing through them?

Open in App
Solution

Lateral shift depends on the thickness of glass slab.more the thickness, more will be the lateral shift.
If the surface is smooth, the lateral shift doesn't depend on the surface much. But if the surface is not plain and smooth, then the angle of incidence may vary due to imperfections in surface and it will affect amount of lateral shift.i t may increase or decrease lateral shift.
