  1. The clotting of blood is the conversion of the blood from the liquid state to the solid state when it gets exposed to air.
  2. The component required for blood clotting is prothrombin, thromboplastin, calcium and fibrinogen.

  1. The good sources of vitamin K are green leafy vegetables like broccoli and spinach, vegetable oils, cereal grains and fruits etc.

Role of vitamin K in blood clotting

  1. Usually blood clots in 2 to 5 minutes but sometimes blood does not clot for longer times, due to deficiency of Vitamin K.
  2. Vitamin K is required for the production of prothrombin in the liver.
  3. Prothrombin is a component of blood clotting.
