Question

What's the difference between these two rxns
NaCl + H2SO4 --> Na2SO4 + HCl
NaCl +H2SO4 --> NaHSO4 + HCl

Open in App
Solution

IF you use insufficient NaCl/H2O, then you will also get the formation of a solid cake of NaHSO4 (Sodium Bisulphate). If you have enough water and NaCl, then you will produce mainly Na2SO4. this can be seen in the equations: NaCl+H2SO4—> NaHSO4 +HCl 2NaCl+H2SO4—> Na2SO4+2HCl
