What should be the direction of trade winds? Does the rotation of earth provide any change in their direction?

Solution

Trade winds:

1-Trade winds can be defined as the wind that flows towards the equator from the northeast in the Northern Hemisphere or the south-east in the Southern Hemisphere.
2- Trade winds from east to west on both sides of the equator.

Cause:

1-These winds are made when the hot air moves up and strikes the equator then it is pulled towards the poles making them cool.
2- These winds are used by the sailors. Christopher Columbus discovered America with the help of trade winds.

Direction:

1-These winds blow from the west direction towards the east direction in the middle latitudes between 30° and 60° latitude in both southern and northern hemispheres.
2-These winds should have blown from the north to south in Northern Hemisphere and south to north in Southern Hemisphere, but, they get deflected to the right in Northern Hemisphere and to the left in the Southern Hemisphere due to the rotation of the earth.

Hence, these winds blow from the west direction towards the east direction in the middle latitudes between 30° and 60° latitude in both southern and northern hemispheres.
