Question

what should be the minimum distance between source and reflector in water so that echo is heard distinctly (The speed of sound in water = 1400m s-1)

Open in App
Solution

Dear student

as it is given in the question that the speed of sound in water is 1400m/s
we know that according to the persistance of hearing the sensation of sound lasts for 1/10s
ā€‹ so the time taken will be 0.1s
now, 2d = v × t
2d = 1400×0.1
2d = 140
d = 1402 = 70m.
so the minimum distance between the source and the reflector will be 70m
