Stomach:

  1. The Stomach is a part of the gastrointestinal tract that helps in the digestion process.
  2. The stomach collects food from the esophagus
  3. The Stomach produces enzymes and digestive juices which break down food so that it can easily pass to the small intestine.

The Stomach is made up of several tissues, important ones are listed below:

  1. Mucosa: The mucous membrane is the inner lining of the stomach, Connective tissues support the tissues of the mucosa
  2. Submucosa: It is a dense connective tissue, that surrounds the mucosa, it monitors the contents of the stomach and regulates the contraction of smooth muscle, and secretion of digestive substances.
  3. Muscularis propria or muscularis externa: It is the next layer that protects the submucosa. smooth muscle fibers
  4. Subserosa layers: This layer contains supporting tissues for the serosa
  5. Serosa: This is the last and outermost layer made up of Epithelial tissue.
