Following are the factors which cause acceleration:

  1. When the velocity of a body is changed.
  2. When the direction of the body is changed.
  3. When there is variation in either acceleration or velocity.
  4. It is defined by formula: a-=v-v0t here, a- is the average acceleration, v is final velocity, v0 is starting velocity, t is time.

Acceleration is denoted by a and its SI unit is metre/second2(m/s2).
