Question

What type of bonding exist between metal and non-metal?

Open in App
Solution

Bond exists between metal and non-metal is ionic bond.

  • Ionic bond is a type of linkage formed from the electrostatic attraction between oppositely charged ions in a chemical compound.
  • Metals can easily lose electrons to form cations.
  • Non-metals can gain those electrons to form anions.
  • And these cations and anions then get bonded through an ionic bond.
  • Example: In Sodium chloride, sodium (a metal) and chlorine (a non-metal) are bonded through an ionic bond.
