Ionic bond is a type of linkage formed from the electrostatic attraction between oppositely charged ions in a chemical compound.
Metals can easily lose electrons to form cations.
Non-metals can gain those electrons to form anions.
And these cations and anions then get bonded through an ionic bond.
Example: In Sodium chloride, sodium (a metal) and chlorine (a non-metal) are bonded through an ionic bond.
