What type of bonding exists in H3O+ ion?

Open in App
Solution

Covalent Bond - A covalent bond is established when two atoms share their electrons in order to form a bond.

Coordination Bond - When one atom transfers one of its additional electron pairs to another, a coordination bond is established.

Bonding exists in H3O+ ion-

  • H3O+ ion contains two O-H covalent bonds.
  • One O-H co-ordinate bond.
  • Hence in H3O+ ion has two covalent and one covalent coordinate bond.
