What type of cell is found in the seminiferous tubules?

Open in App
Solution

Seminiferous Tubules:

  1. Seminiferous tubules are essentially the site of the production of sperms in males.
  2. Each testis is divided into 250 lobules, each containing 2 to 3 seminiferous tubules.
  3. The epithelium lining the tubules has 2 types of cells - male germ cells and Sertoli cells.
  4. Male germ cells give rise to spermatocytes, which require Sertoli cells for maturation.
  5. Sertoli cells are also called nurse cells, and they provide nutrition to the spermatocytes until they mature.
