Conservation of biodiversity includes its protection, upliftment, and scientific management so as to maintain it at its optimum level and derive sustainable benefits for the present as well as the future generation.
There are several strategies to conserve biodiversity out of which two main strategies are - In situ and Ex-situ conservation.
In-situ conservation:
It is the conservation of living resources within the natural ecosystems, in which they occur.
Biodiversity at all levels can be conserved in situ by a comprehensive system of protected areas such as the national parks, sanctuaries, natural reserves, natural monuments, cultural landscapes, biosphere reserves, wetlands, and several others.
Much of the diversity can be conserved in the natural habitat.
