Question

What type of energy change takes place in an oscillating pendulum?

Open in App
Solution

  1. In an oscillating pendulum, energy continuously changes between potential energy and kinetic energy.
  2. At the extreme position, the pendulum has maximum potential energy and at the mean position, it will have maximum kinetic energy.
  3. So, in between extreme position and mean position, the pendulum must have both kinetic and potential energy.
  4. This causes the increase and decrease of both kinetic and potential energy depending on the position of the pendulum.
