Solution

Oviduct:

  1. The tube through which the egg passes from the ovary to the uterus is known as oviduct.
  2. The oviduct is also known as the Fallopian tube or uterine tube.
  3. Oviduct provides the place for fertilization.
  4. Oviduct is 10 to 12 cm long.
  5. Oviduct has three parts: Infundibulum, Ampulla and Isthmus.
  6. Oviduct is lined by ciliated epithelium.

Epithelium in oviduct:

  1. Ciliated epithelium is present mainly in the ampulla and infundibulum sections of the oviduct.
  2. The ciliated cells have hair-like projections called cilia.
  3. The cilia extend from the apical membrane of the cells to the oviduct's lumen.
  4. The ciliary beating is due to the axoneme present in the cilia.
  5. Ciliary movement helps to remove and capture mucus and other debris from the oviduct and also helps in the movement of eggs.
