Question

What type of hyphae do ascomycetes have?

Open in App
Solution

Hyphae:

  1. The mycelium consists of hyphae related to the long-branched structure of fungi, actinobacterium and oomycete. Furthermore, mycelium is the main vegetative mode of most fungi.
  2. The mycelium is surrounded by a hard, chitin-rich cell wall. In addition, they possess an inner plasma membrane.
  3. It is separated by partitions. In addition, partitions are walls that almost always have voids and regulatory structures.
  4. Thus, the septum helps to prevent cell leakage that occurs due to cell disruption.

Ascomycetes:

  1. Ascomycetes belong to the sub-kingdom Dikarya.
  2. Some of them behave as saprophytes and some act like pathogens that cause diseases.
  3. Their reproductive structure is known as ascus or asci.
  4. Also, most members are terrestrial, parasitic, or coprophilous.
  5. The mycelium is made up of septate and branched hyphae.

Hence, septate hyphae are present in ascomycetes.
