The process in which a gene undergoes alteration to give rise to a different expression resulting in a change of sequence in the synthesized amino acids.
Gene expression regulation can occur at various steps. The steps are:
Replication level
Transcription level
Post-transcription level
Translation level
Lac operon:
Lac operon is an operon or a group of genes with a single promoter that encodes genes for the transport and metabolism of lactose in E.coli and other bacteria.
Lac operon is an inducible operon.
Inducible operons are normally switched off and become operational only in the presence of an inducer (lactose).
