Some of the factors that may give rise to major landslides are

a) heavy down pour of rainfall, steep slopes, heavily weathered soil and rock layers,
b) very poor drainage facilities, deforestation that may lead to soil erosion, heavy mining and quarrying activities,
c) improper construction of buildings etc
