The Chipko movement was a method of preserving the trees from being cut by embracing them. The name of the movement was derived from the word 'embrace' as the villagers hugged the trees and prevented the contractors from felling them. It is also known as Chipko andolan and it took place in 1973 in Reni village of Chamoli district Uttrakhand. The movement invokes the following values:- 1.
