  • To put down the events that had been taking place in France, since the summer of 1789, the rulers of neighboring countries had planned to send troops, as they were worried about the events going on in France.
  • In April 1792, before the troops of neighboring countries could move in, the National Assembly voted and declared a war on Austria and Prussia.
  • The Army was joined by thousands of volunteers from the provinces, they saw this as a war of the people against the aristocracies and kings all over Europe.
  • While marching, the volunteers in the Army sang many patriotic songs, Marseillaise was one one of the patriotic songs that was sung.
