The industrial revolution in Britain resulted in long term benefits for the country. Industrialised production of cotton textiles made Britain the leading industrial nation in the nineteenth century. It led to the expansion of the domestic market and colonies. It paved way for urbanisation, flourishing towns and cities, improvement of living standards and the advancement of railways. It brought about immense job and business opportunities for the British people. Also, when its iron and steel industry began to grow from the 1850s, Britain came to be known as the “workshop of the world”.
