Solution
RNA:
Ribosomal nucleic acid
is the first genetic material to be discovered.
Its discovery was along with the discovery of nuclein by Freidrich Miescher in 1886.
Earlier in 1939, it was found that RNA has a specific role in protein synthesis.
From 1890 to 1950 it was identified that RNA differs from DNA by having an additional -OH group on the ribose ring.
In 1959, the Nobel prize was awarded to Severo Ochoa for the discovery of RNA synthesis.
