What was the most significant trend, in the evolution of modern man (Homo sapiens), from his ancestors?
Increase in brain capacity
During human evolution, the major and most significant changes occurred in the cranial capacity of man. In the living modern man, the cranial capacity is about 1450 cc compared to the 500 cc in Australopithecus. Increased cranial capacity accommodates larger brain and forms the basis of the social, cultural and educational evolution of man. Binocular vision, smaller jaw, and upright position were few of the main adaptations that led to the evolution of man from its ancestors but their significance was not as great as that of cranial capacity.
