In the Second Anglo-Mysore War, the British tried to take advantage of Hyder Ali’s death by attacking Mangalore and Bidanoor; Tippu Sultan was busy defending the Malabar region. Realising that he would not be able to defend both sides, he decided to protect Mangalore and the coastal regions. He defeated the British, and both the parties signed the Treaty of Mangalore in 1784 CE, thus bringing the Second-Anglo Mysore War to an end.
