The Surat session of Congress of 1907 was a major event as it caused a split in Congress and the event is also called as Surat Split. It led to the formation of two groups-Moderates who believed in the policy of settlement of minor issues with the government by deliberations and Extremists who believed in agitation, strikes and boycotts to force their demands.
