Dear student,
The system of taxation prevalent in 18th century France was very unjust as it was entirely borne by the Third Estate. The Third Estate included 90 percent of the French Population. It comprised of the middle class such as rich businessmen, court officials, rich merchants etc, peasants and artisans, urban workers, landless labour and servants. This class was the most hard working class and produced more everything for the kingdom. But they had to bear the entire burden of taxation. The peasants were the worst sufferers as their income was low. They were forced to pay taxes on every item which made their lives more miserable.
Taille was a direct tax which the third estate had to pay to the State. It was based on the amount of land owned by the members.
Tithe was a compulsory contribution which the members of the third estate mainly the peasants had to made to the Church.
Feudal dues was an amount collected by the nobles from the peasants which was a special privilege enjoyed by them.
The people of the Third Estate opposed the taxation system because they were the sole tax payers which affect their income as a large share of it goes in tax payment which was unjust.
Regards.
