The causes of ethnic conflict in Belgium were as follows.
(i) The minority French-speaking community was relatively rich and powerful. This was resented by the Dutch community.
(ii) The Dutch community got the benefit of economic development and education much tater. This led to tension between the Dutch-speaking and French communities during the 1950s and 1960s.
(iii) The social disparity between Dutch and French speaking communities during the 1950s and 1960s.
