Open in App
Solution

The Khilafat movement was trigerred by the move by the victorious powers in the First World War, including Britain, to abolish the caliphate which was held by the Ottoman sultan of Turkey. Turkey was on the losing side of the war. The move to abolish the caliphate was resented by Muslims in India which led to the Khilafat movement.
