Three demands of Srilankan Tamils are as follows:

• recognition of Tamil as an official language,
• for regional autonomy and
• equality of opportunity in securing education and
  jobs.

The Srilankan government did not pay any heed to the demands of the Tamils.The Tamils formed several political organisations but their activities were suppressed by the government forcefully which led to the Civil War.
