Solution
Instruction: Explain the role of Joint Action Committee and the other political parties in the formation of Telangana.
Solution:
A Joint Action Committee was formed which led to the setting up of hundreds of such political parties in Telangana. They had various roles in the movement and protest which ultimately led to the formation of Telangana.
A Telangana Information Trust was set up in 1989 to get information on injustices done to Telangana. On November 1, 1996, Telangana Vidroham meeting was organised in Warangal by a group of intellectuals.
Telangana Jana Sabha and Telangana Mahasabha was created in 1997 which facilitated the merger of the movements of the weaker sections with the movement for the state.
Many people from different sections of society joined the movement. It included teachers, Non-Gazetted and Gazetted Officers, writers and other cultural activists.
Employees of JACs and JACs from different castes or communities were also set up to support the movement.
Lastly, the Congress Core Committee heard the presentations from the Andhra side and Telangana side and finally took a decision in favour of bifurcation.
