What were the drawbacks of Rowlett Satyagrah?

Rowlett satyagraha is an act that has to govern by the British government and forces to which the intention was to repress the political activities like satyagraha which is apart of our independence fight. It also allowed the detention of the political prisoners and any person who was suspected of causing terrorism, for up to 2 years without the need of a trial. President Sir Sidney Rowlatt, the British judge given the name for this.

Drawbacks:

  • Mahatma Gandhi wanted to Civil Disobedience movement in a non-violent way. So, he called off the Rowlatt Satyagraha movement as it was spreading a lot of violence. This is one of the drawbacks of Rowlett satyagraha.
  • This movement was limited only to the cities and towns, and the villages did not get a chance to participate in it.
