Major beliefs and practices of the bhakti saints were:
  • They preached salvation comes with love and devotion to the almighty and supreme God.
  • They preached and worked for the removal of the social barriers created by caste, class and differences in the religion and also challenged orthodoxy.
  • They were against the dependence on outward symbols and absurd rituals.
Some of the principles taught by the Bhakti saints were:
(i) Everyone is equal before God.
(ii) It taught the devotion towards God by discarding rituals.
(iii) They laid emphasis on Hindu-Muslim unity etc.
