Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,
Following are the reasons behind the decline of the Gupta empire:
1. Drain of resources and wealth due to excessive wars and fights with other kingdoms.
2. Provincial rebellion and revolt for local independence by the feudatories and hereditary governors of the Gupta empire.
3. Dissension among the members of the royal family which led to the weakening of relationships and finally to the weakening of the empire.
4. Foreign invasions by other kingdoms also led to the weakening and decline of the empire.
5. Change of religion by the Guptas from Hinduism to Buddhism also led to internal contradictions among them and finally to the decline of the empire.
