If Parliamentary democracy has to survive in India, quick reform in the functioning of political parties is an urgent requirement. Four instances which specify the efforts in India to reform political parties and leaders include:
1. The constitution has put a ban on elected MLAs and MPs from changing parties frequently in order to curb defection.
2.The Supreme Court passed an order to diminish the use of money and criminals in politics.
3.It is compulsory for every candidate, who contests elections, to file an affidavit by giving necessary details of his property and criminal cases pending against him.
4.The Election Commission passed an order and made it compulsory for political parties to hold their organisational elections and file their income tax returns on regular basis.
