  • The treaty marked the beginning of political involvement of the East India Company into country's affairs
  • The treaty granted the rights of Diwani to the East India Company that enabled the company to collect taxes on behalf of the emperor.
  • With this treaty, the Company became the tax collector of the entire eastern province including Bengal, Bihar, and Orissa.
  • In lieu of the diwani rights, the East India Company agreed to pay Shah Alam twenty six lakhs annually for the maintenance of his palace at Allahabad.
