What will be the effect of global warming at the poles ?
.
Global warming will melt thousands of square km of ice which remain in a state of perma- frost at the poles.. This fresh infusion of water into the sea will raise the water level of the coastal areas flooding and inundating all low lying areas.
Further, we know that the bright surface of the ice acts as a reflector for the sun, keeping the planet cool. This reflective quality is called ‘albedo’. The more ice that melts, the less there will be to reflect the sun, and so the warmer it will become, thus causing temperatures to rise higher and faster accelerating global warming even further.
