Question

What will be the flow, if we take mercury in a pipe, when mercury comes out from the pipe( which is used to flow water) then wiill the flow be streamline or turbulent.

Solution

Dear student
the flow is streamline or turbulence is decided by factor called Reynolds number Re
Re =ρvDη (where ρ is density of liquid,v is speed,D is diameter and η is cofficient of viscosity)....1>if Re> 2000 then flow becomes turbulent if Re<1000 hen flowis streamlineand is 1000<Re<2000 hen flow is unsteady , it may change from stramline to turbulent and vice versabut from eq 1 as mercury is more dense hence its is more so it may be turbulent
