When benzene reacts with propyl chloride in the presence of anhydrous AlCl3 which acts as a Lewis acid, it is called as Friedel Craft Alkylation.

Propyl chloride forms CH3–CH2–CH+2 with anhydrous AlCl3 which is less stable. This rearranges to a more stable secondary carbocation via 1,2-hydride shift as:
Finally, the secondary carbocation undergo electrophilic substitution with benzene to given isopropyl benzene as the final product.
