What will be the sex of the child born :
(a) if X chromosome carrying sperm fertilizes an ovum containing X chromosome?
(b) if Y chromosome carrying sperm fertilizes an ovum containing X chromosome?
(a) Female (Girl)
b) Male (Boy)
Females have two X chromosomes (XX) while males have one X and one Y chromosome (XY). Because females are XX, all eggs have one X chromosome. On the other hand, half the sperm produced by males have an X chromosome and the other half have the Y chromosome. If the sperm with a Y chromosome fuses with the egg (X), then the offspring will be male (XY). Sperm with an X chromosome fusing with the egg will form a female (XX).
