The correct option is B 32 sq. ft

Area of a rectangle = Length × Width

In the image, all the yellow-colored figures are squares.

So, the area of a yellow-colored square is:
= Length × Width
= 1 ft × 1 ft
= 1 sq. ft

The number of yellow-colored squares present = 4.

So, the total area of the yellow-colored squares is:
= area of 1 yellow-colored square × number of yellow-colored squares
= 1 sq. ft × 4
= 4 sq. ft

The outside shape is a square.

So, the total area of the whole square is
= Length × Width
= 6 ft × 6 ft
= 36 sq. ft

∴ The area of the grey colored portion is = Total area of the whole square - Total area of the yellow-colored square
= 36 sq. ft - 4 sq ft.
= 32 sq. ft
