Question

What will be the valency of the element whose atom has three protons and four neutrons?

Open in App
Solution

Valency will be 1.

Given the element has 3 protons means it has 3 electrons as well.

Mass number =3+4=7

Thus the electronic configuration will be: 2,1

It has only one electron in the valence shell and by losing this electron it can attain stability.

Hence its valency will be one.
