Question

What will happen if a plant cell is kept in solution of higher water potential?

Open in App
Solution

A solution of higher water potential means that the solution is hypotonic to the plant cell. In this condition, the cell starts absorbing water and becomes swollen or turgid. This process goes on until the difference between theit water potentials become zero. If this state is not achieved then the cell may even burst due to excessive amount of absorption.
