Question

What will happen if a positively charged and a negatively charged particle collides with each other

Open in App
Solution

Well, it depends on the particles. If the former is an electron and the latter is a proton, they make a hydrogen atom (after emitting a few photons as the electron makes transitions down to the ground state). If the former is an iodine ion and the latter is a sodium ion, you get sodium iodide, an ionic compound. I think you can generalize only to the extent of saying, “They stick together!”
