Question

What will happen if a saturated solution is heated or cooled?

Open in App
Solution

If a saturated solution is heated then -

  1. It becomes unsaturated. Hence, the saturation point of a solution increases with the increase in temperature as there is an increase in solubility of the solute.
  2. It becomes capable of dissolving more solute.
  3. If a saturated solution is heated, then it becomes unsaturated because the solubility of solute increases on heating

If a saturated solution is cooled then -
If a saturated solution is cooled to a lower temperature, some of its dissolved solutes get separated in the form of solid crystals by the process of crystallization.
