Dear student,
If emergency contraceptive is taken after fertilisation then the chemical will irritate the lining of the uterus resulting in rejection of implantation due to which child dies. This is known as chemical abortion.
The risk of pregnancy can be reduced by taking emergency contraceptives within 72 hours.
