The roots hold the soil and hence prevent soil erosion. The oxygen that we breathe in, is also given out by the trees. They take in carbon dioxide and give out oxygen, thereby helping in replenishing oxygen back into the atmosphere. Forests help to maintain the oxygen balance in the atmosphere.
