Question

what will happen if histones were to be mutated made rich in glutamine, spartic acid in place of basic acids??

Open in App
Solution

Histones are proteins that are made up of basic amino acids such as lysine and arginine. They stabilize the DNA by interacting with negatively charged phosphate groups of the DNA molecule. But if these basic amino acids are mutated and replaced by negatively charged glutamic acid, aspartic acid, then the repulsion will occur between the histones and the DNA and due to which the DNA will become unstable and gets distorted.
