Question

What will happen if layers of carbon atom in graphite are hold by covalent bond

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Layers of carbon in graphite are hold by weak forces of attraction but if they are hold by covalent bond then layers of graphite will not slide over each other easily because there are hold by covalent bond and it is stronger as compared to weak force of attraction due to which graphite lost its property of slippery. And now graphite will not use as lubricant due to loss of slipperiness.
