Question

What will happen to (i)kinetic energy of photoelectrons and (ii) photocurrent of the light is changed from ultraviolet to x-rays in a photoelectric experiment? Intensity of the beam is same in both cases.

Solution

The frequency of xray is greater than ultraviolet
therefore
i)the velocity of electrons increases with increase in frequency ,so the kinetic energy will increase when shifted to xray from ultraviolet
ii)the photocurrent doesn't depend on the frequency and therefore no change in photocurrent doesn't change
