Open in App
Solution

A wedge-shaped film is placed in white light:

  1. When white light is used to illuminate the fringe, it produces coloured fringe.
  2. A wedge-shaped film is a thin film that has zero thickness at one end.
  3. A wedge-shaped film progressively increases to a particular thickness at the other end.

Figure (a) film interference shows rainbow bands, and figure (b) schematic of the paths taken by rays in the wedge of air between the slides.
