Reduction:

  • The addition of Hydrogen or removal of oxygen is termed as reduction.
  • Sn/HCl is used as reducing agent.

Reaction of Nitrobenzene with Sn/HCl:

  • When Nitrobenzene is treated with Sn/HCl, it undergoes reduction to produce Aniline.
  • At first, Aniline salt is formed which is then treated with NaOH to give Aniline.
  • This is known as Nitrobenzene reduction.
