Solution

Methyl orange:

  1. Methyl orange is a pH indicator frequently used in titration because of its clear and distinct color variance at different pH values.
  2. Methyl orange shows red color in the acidic medium and yellow color in the basic medium.

Hydrochloric acid:

  1. Hydrochloric acid [H+(aq) Cl-(aq) ], also known as muriatic acid, is an aqueous solution of hydrogen chloride (chemical formula: HCl).
  2. It is a colorless solution with a distinctively pungent smell.
  3. It is classified as a strong acid.

(ii) Methyl orange is added to Dilute Hydrochloric acid: As dilute Hydrochloric acid is acidic in nature, when methyl orange is added to it, the color of the solution turns red.
